Elanco Animal Health UK & Ireland has expanded its pig and poultry team with the appointment of Dr Tom Dutton as an additional technical consultant for poultry, who will work alongside Joshua Davison.

Dr Dutton is a specialist avian vet with more than 13 years’ experience working in the sector, predominantly treating pet and zoo-owned birds, including exotic species, but also spending some time working with commercial poultry.

“I went down the specialist avian vet route because I’ve always been interested in birds, mainly due to being involved in falconry from a young age,” says Dr Dutton.

“My role within Elanco, will focus on supporting broiler producers with intestinal health issues and providing recommendations around Elanco’s Intestinal Integrity portfolio including GALLIPRO® FIT, Hemicell^TM, Maxiban ^TM and Monteban ^TM, while also supporting the layer sector with Salmonella control through the use of our AviPro™ vaccines.”

Dr Dutton is looking forward to getting more involved with the commercial poultry sector and getting out and about to visit producers as part of his new role.

“The poultry sector is really dynamic, progressive and self-sufficient, and the people involved in it all want the best for the industry,” says Dr Dutton.

“In my role, I’ll provide technical support to vets and producers, including training support.”

He adds: “The industry is in a good place at the moment, so it’s important we, at Elanco, work to make sure we can help producers optimise bird performance.

“A big part of what we’re trying to do is improving Intestinal Integrity which in turn supports bird health and welfare and providing added value services with our technical support and advice.”
