Red meat from the UK showcased in China this week
Valuable export opportunities for the UK’s red meat sector will be explored at the nineteenth annual China International Meat Industry Exhibition (CIMIE) this week.
Held in Qingdao Cosmopolitan Exposition, from 15–17 September, CIMIE is the most professional meat industry show in China – attracting more than 1,000 exhibitors as well as 300,000 visitors from all over the world.
AHDB will have a stand at this year’s event, however due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions, the stand will be managed by our China-based representative Holly Chen who has supported AHDB on the ground in China for many years. Working closely with UK exporters’ locally-based teams on the AHDB British meat stand will ensure high visibility for UK red meat exports.
The aim is to target importers and processors to build on the impressive export figures for pork from the UK and support the new market access for UK beef.
According to latest data from HMRC, in the first six months of 2021, 83,000 tonnes of pork was shipped to China – valued at nearly £150m. AHDB Head of Asia Pacific Jonathan Eckley said:
“China is a hugely important market for our pork exporters and CIMIE provides an opportunity to establish and maintain relationships with key importers and processors with the ultimate goal of adding value to the UK meat sectors.
“During an incredibly challenging year for exports, it’s imperative that we not only identify new markets in Asia but continue to build on the opportunities in existing markets to ensure our levy payers benefit from the exciting prospects they present.”
