Press Release: Nature-friendly farming charity calls for donations to create wildflower meadow for pollinators at Surrey farm
The Countryside Regeneration Trust is appealing to the people of Surrey to help reverse the decline of pollinators by supporting the creation of a new wildflower meadow at Pierrepont Farm in Frensham.
Bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and wasps are essential for healthy ecosystems, biodiversity, and food production, yet their populations are significantly declining.
To address this, the CRT, which promotes nature-friendly farming to help reverse the biodiversity decline and combat climate change, is raising funds through its summer appeal, with £2,500 still needed to reach the target.
The Pierrepont Farm wildflower meadow project is entirely volunteer-led, explains CRT volunteer manager, Leslie Hackett.
“The idea came from the Pierrepont Farm volunteer team, and it’s their passion that will turn an overlooked patch of land into a haven for pollinators,” she said.
“These tiny creatures are essential for healthy ecosystems and food production, yet their numbers are in worrying decline.
“By giving them a home, here, the volunteers are making a real difference, not just for wildlife, but for future generations too.”
The wildflower meadow will provide vital food sources and shelter for bees, butterflies, hoverflies and a host of other essential insects.
Working with its volunteers and conservation experts, the CRT will transform an area of overgrown scrubland into a pollinator paradise.
The plan includes sowing a carefully selected mix of native wildflowers, ensuring continuous nectar and pollen sources from spring through autumn.
The habitat will also feature critical elements, such as nesting areas for ground bees, dead wood for solitary bees, and host plants for butterflies and moths.
The project is due to begin in late winter/early spring 2026, with the appeal aiming to reach its fundraising goal in time to prepare the site.
