The Farmers Guardian team has successfully completed its 24 Hour Big Farm Walk across the Cotswolds, raising more than £4,000 for Farms for City Children and through its fundraising partner Len's Light, Yellow Wellies, as part of this year's 24 Hours in Farming (#farm24) campaign.

The gruelling 24 hour charity challenge saw members of the Farmers Guardian team set off from Diddly Squat Farm Shop at 7am before walking through some of the UK's most iconic countryside, stopping at Cotswold Farm Park and finishing at The Farmer's Dog, where they celebrated with a well-earned British breakfast after 24 hours on foot. Joining the team for the entire 44-mile route were Farmer Will and partner Jessie Renee Wynter, while broadcaster and author Tom Heap also laced up his walking boots to support the campaign for one leg of the journey.

The Big Farm Walk forms part of the build-up to this year's #farm24, which returns on 30 July, and reflects the campaign's central message that farming is about far more than producing food, it is part of the solution to many of the challenges facing society today. From supporting mental wellbeing and encouraging children to spend more time outdoors, to improving public health and caring for the environment, the campaign aims to demonstrate the positive impact farming has on communities across the UK.

By walking through the countryside farmers work so hard to protect, the team hoped to encourage others to reconnect with nature while raising vital funds for two charities whose work aligns closely with this year's campaign.

Yellow Wellies, through the Farm Safety Foundation, works to improve mental health and wellbeing across the farming community, while Farms for City Children provides immersive experiences that enable young people to discover where their food comes from and experience life on a working farm.

Donations have already exceeded £4,000, with fundraising remaining open until 30 July, when the 24 Hours in Farming campaign takes place – follow the link to donate: https://gvwhl.com/XRJOO

Katie Jones, Editor of Farmers Guardian, said:

"I am so proud of the team and those who took part in the walk. It was a pretty tough 24 hours, especially in the heat, but the focus was raising money for really worthy causes, and I hope we have managed to raise some awareness of two important topics within agriculture."

The route included a visit to Cotswold Farm Park, owned by farmer and television presenter Adam Henson, before concluding at The Farmer's Dog, where participants reflected on the achievement and the importance of championing British farming.

The Big Farm Walk is one of several initiatives taking place ahead of this year's #farm24 campaign, which will unite farmers, food producers, rural businesses and supporters across social media to celebrate the people behind British food production and showcase the role farming plays in building healthier communities and a more sustainable future.

Supporters can still donate to the Big Farm Walk fundraiser until 30 July and follow the campaign using #farm24.
