EU Pig Prices: UK prices slide, but quotations healthy on mainland

Having risen above the €2 mark two weeks ago, UK pig prices dropped for the second consecutive week this week, though quotations increased for most other EU countries, on scarcity of supply and improved demand.

German group ISN said on Tuesday that "Steady to friendly trends can be observed on the… market this week."

Price increases ranged from 0.8 cents in France to 4 cents, recorded in Germany. The British quotation rolled back to €1.99/kg (£1.58), though the slide from the high of just over 2€/kg seen two weeks ago is only slight.

ISN said "On the other hand, the slaughter companies are complaining about a weak meat business. According to their own statements, the meat processing industry is not able to realise price increases in sales."
