Farming News - Game-changing new fungicide and molluscicide at Cereals

Game-changing new fungicide and molluscicide at Cereals

ADAMA Agricultural Solutions UK, will be making its debut as an exhibitor at Cereals in 2026 (Diddly Squat Farm, 10 and 11 June) where, in addition to its wider range of herbicides, fungicides and pesticides, it will be presenting two ground-breaking new crop protection products:

  1. Gilboa – a completely new fungicide with a unique, game-changing mode of action
  2. Ferrabait – a new molluscicide with a novel active ingredient which provides fast-acting, long-lasting control of all slug species

The ADAMA stand at Cereals will be manned by key personnel from ADAMA's UK, European and global teams, including fungicide and molluscicide technical experts, research and development scientists, and representatives from the company's commercial, sales and marketing departments. All these people will be available to share more about how Gilboa and Ferrabait were developed, how they can be incorporated into crop protection programmes and how they will help UK growers to produce higher yielding, more profitable crops.

Gilboa: the next generation of fungicides
Gilboa is the trade name for flumetylsulforim, an imino-tosyl-pyrimidinone chemistry which has been classified as having a unique mode of action (Group 32) by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC). This new mode of action in cereals targets nucleic acid metabolism, a biochemical pathway that has never previously been utilised by cereal fungicides. This significant innovation provides valuable protection against key diseases in cereals and oilseed rape, including septoria and sclerotinia, offering UK farmers a powerful tool for disease resistance management.

Gilboa is currently progressing through the regulatory approval process with product registration and availability expected for the 2027 season. Meanwhile, proof of concept trials are taking place in the UK (and globally) with initial findings proving that Gilboa adds good efficacy to fungicide programmes, enabling growers to produce cleaner, higher yielding, more profitable crops.

Ferrabait: slug control that delivers
Ferrabait is a brand-new slug pellet which uses the novel molluscicide active ingredient, Feralla, to deliver rapid-stop feeding of all slug species.

Approved for use on all cereal, vegetable, grass ley and high value broad-field crops, Ferrabait slug pellets contain a complex proprietary formulation of 12 ingredients including 1% w/w Feralla (elemental iron) which is toxic to slugs and causes rapid cessation of feeding. Ferrabait pellets also contain a blend of high-quality wheat flours which ensure optimum pellet palatability, and humic acids which stimulate rapid feeding. The pellets also boast class-leading levels of longevity and resistant to mould thanks to ADAMA’s unique manufacturing process.

Available in autumn 2026, Ferrabait pellets are manufactured to tight processing specifications to ensure each pellet is of a uniform size, shape, weight, consistency and colour. At a size of 2.5mm by 2.1mm, Ferrabait pellets spread accurately to wide operating widths and provide the optimal number of baiting points (40-50 pellets per m2) when applied at typical field rates. This spreading accuracy, combined with their rapid-stop feeding effect, excellent palatability and durability even in the wettest conditions, ensures crops treated with Ferrabait are protected quickly and for longer against all species of slugs.
